Born from a paradox

Soweto Narrative was born out of an observation that is clearly a paradox. The 1976 Soweto Uprising — a tragedy in which thousands of learners lost their lives — gained global recognition and contributed to Soweto becoming a tourist attraction nationally, continentally, and globally.

Soweto attracted South African corporate and international leaders, and economic activity grew in leaps and bounds. Home to two Nobel Peace Prize Laureates — the late Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu — the economic boom in Soweto benefited all, minus Soweto residents.

"Soweto Narrative exists to plug that gap — to ensure that the economic prosperity of Soweto finally reaches its own people."
